Mayor Joe Hogsett, Bicentennial Commission Encourage Residents to Participate in City’s 200th Birthday Celebration

June 26, 2020

INDIANAPOLIS – Today Mayor Joe Hogsett and the Indianapolis Bicentennial Commission reminded area residents that the city’s 200th birthday kick-off will be aired on WISH-TV on Sunday, June 28 beginning at 6:30 p.m. Additionally, the commission encouraged residents to mark the milestone by giving back to the community, shopping local, or planning their own birthday celebration.

“In this moment where we are confronting racial injustice, a global pandemic, and unprecedented economic hardship, it can be difficult to imagine a city-wide birthday party. But it is my belief that the bicentennial can serve as a meaningful milestone for Indianapolis residents during this challenging chapter in our city’s history,” said Mayor Joe Hogsett. “Our hope is that throughout this year-long event, every community group, organization, business, and individual in Indianapolis can find an opportunity to reflect on our city’s history and plan for an even brighter future.”

Sunday’s half-hour long program will showcase the city’s evolution over the past two centuries with the help of some major cultural institutions and community leaders. In addition to airing on WISH-TV, the program will also be posted and available at www.wishtv.com.
